BO2K Beta News
This is the website for the fast-paced, exciting BO2K beta program. We now have less than 2 months to go before we present this thing to the world.
The objective of the BO2K beta program is to get the Back Orifice 2000 product completely ready to go for July 9th. In reality, it should be ready to go by the end of June. Ready to go means a number of things:
- The program needs to get completed. This is the top priority. It's at a working point right now, but it needs serious testing. It has the potential to be a very popular adminstration tool, now that it's going to be open source, and easy to develop plugins for.
- Documentation and download website needs to be set up. Reid is working on this.
- Media whore website needs to be set-up with clarifications and details about what BO2K is and is not (ie, not a virus, not a trojan, it is what it is).
- We need to develop an appropriate license for the software. It will be open source, but I don't want people to be developing commercial applications based on the technology that I'm releasing. Not GPL or BSD license either. Something very restrictive, but allows for people to develop commercial plugins using the source code, that remain their own, but they don't get to use the source code to develop a COMPETING product. Someone -fresh- with legalese might want to help out here. We probably don't need to pay a lawyer for this, but we should at least make an attempt to say what we need to say.
- We need to get the presentation ready. People need to email me with a presentation schedule/plan and I'll put it up here. We need to know what resources we have, who we're talking to, when we're talking, and what we're discussing when we do. This means, BO2K prelease party, the actual DefCon presentation, and anything else I may have missed.
We need to get really fucking psyched, and spend our free time in the next month or so fucking with the software, reporting bugs, doing artwork, putting together music, presentations and all of the above. The software is good, but the presentation is going to count for a lot, especially given people's expectations this year. Let's kick things into high gear, folks!
